Detective Seymore Green Puppet Shows
Available for: Grades pre-K through 5
(and others by special request: including higher grades, civic clubs, church groups, etc.)
Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful (KCNB) coordinates the production of a new puppet show each year. All shows star Seymore Green, beloved raccoon mascot of KCNB. The puppet shows deliver important environmental messages such as litter and pollution prevention and the importance of recycling and conservation in a way that is fun and interesting to children. KCNB believes that if future leaders learn important environmental concepts at an early age, they will remember and value these concepts as they grow up and become influential in their communities.
Volunteer puppeteers travel to all elementary schools in Newton County to perform the puppet shows. A professional producer writes and records the shows and makes all of the puppets. Workbooks accompanying each show are sent home with school children to reinforce the puppet show’s message and to allow the children an opportunity to share the information with their families. Different workbooks are given to children depending upon their ages and grade levels. When the children finish all workbook activities and return the completed books to KCNB, they receive prizes from Seymore Green.
Scheduling: Puppet shows last about 25 minutes. With an introduction, explanation of activity books, and time for children to come in and go out, one show takes about 35 minutes. KCNB requests that shows be scheduled 1 hour apart to allow time for changing scenery and organizing puppets. Also, KCNB requests that pre-K through first grades be scheduled back-to-back for the same day if possible. (Students in these lower grades see a different show with a simple litter prevention message.) KCNB will work with you to accommodate your schedules for lunches, reading blocks, field trips, and other activities.
