Current Committees:
The BUSINESS COMMITTEE promotes the involvement of local business and industry in the Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful programs. Projects have included beautification, Clean Business Awards and various awareness campaigns, etc.
The SCHOOLS & EDUCATION COMMITTEE is responsible for the development and implementation of materials and programs that involve public and private schools. Projects have included telephone book recycling, presentations of Seymore Green puppet shows and Enviroscape, Recycling Lab excursions, participation in the Great American Cleanup, America Recycles Day and classroom paper recycling programs.
The GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS COMMITTEE assists local government in re-examining the ways in which it manages the community’s trash, evaluates what it can do to reduce littering and reviews existing ordinances (litter, sign, tree, etc.). Projects have included Training and Workshops for enforcement officials, Illegal Dump Cleanups, Sign Ordinance and Neighborhood Cleanups.
The RECYCLING COMMITTEE is responsible for the development and implementation of recycling education materials and educational programs that involve local citizens, schools, churches, businesses and industries. Projects have included Neighborhood Recycling Centers, Christmas Tree Recycling, America Recycles Day, E-Cycling, and Household Hazardous Waste Recycling.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTEE networks with volunteer organizations in our community, as well as neighborhood associations to become involved in Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful projects. Projects have included Neighborhood Cleanups, Great American Cleanup and Rivers Alive.
The COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE is designed to communicate to the public issues that have been deemed to be important by the Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful Board. The committee will continue to explore new and innovative ways to communicate messages, to all segments of the community. Messages in the past have been communicated via television, radio and print media. In addition, flyers and brochures are developed to distribute highlighting generic issues of concern as well as to inform citizens and schools of special events. The Communications Committee also manages the KCNB website, www.kcnb.biz and FaceBook.
The COMMUNICATIONS YOUTH SUB-COMMITTEE is made up of representatives from each high school, college, and university facility. The responsibility of these youth interns is to assist the Communications Committee in designing communication tools to “speak to” local youth. The interns will also share KCNB information with the student body and help implement in-house KCNB programs, such as recycling, litter reduction and beautification.
The FUNDRAISER COMMITTEE is responsible for planning and implementing an annual fundraiser activity to supplement maintenance and operations funding provided by the City and County governments. The monies raised by the committee will be used to further educational, beautification and solid waste management efforts of the KCNB board.
The FINANCE COMMITTEE manages the funds raised by the Fundraising Committee. This committee sets an annual budget for spending these funds to educate and beautify the community.
